Profile of the Programme

The one year programme of Master of Science Electrical Engineering Technology has two main subjects: electrical engineering and automation engineering. The main subject electrical engineering consists of courses studying electrical power, energy production and transport, electrical technology and installations, drive technology and automation. The main subject automation engineering consists of courses studying drive technology, automation and control engineering, of electrical technology and installations, and of programming techniques and data processing. Students can acquire more in-depth knowledge of specialised fields through selection of elective courses within their specialty or related to the domain.

Admission to the Master of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology is automatic for students holding a degree of Bachelor of Science in Electromechanical Engineering Technology. Successful completion of some designated preparatory programmes is required for admission of students holding certain other bachelor or master degrees.

Profile of a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology

The industrial engineers are duly capable of filling various positions in industry by virtue of the polyvalent training and through their in-depth applied technical-scientific grounding.

After having completed the course programme a graduate is expected to
• have the required creative and critical attitudes and skills to contribute to industrial technological developments and to be able to apply new technical and scientific developments.
• have the necessary social skills to work as a member of a team and to assume positions with responsability.
• be able to design and maintain industrial processes and installations and be able to supervise the manufacturing.
• specifically for 'Electrical Engineering' as a main subject: have acquired a specialized knowledge and expertise in all methodologies and tools for electrical power, energy production and transport, electrical technology and installations, drive technology and automation.
• specifically for 'Automation Engineering' as a main subject: have acquired a specialized knowledge and expertise in all methodologies and tools for drive technology, automation and control engineering, for electrical technology and installations, and for programming techniques and data processing.

Content of studies

The training programme contains of specialised applied technical-scientific courses in the field of electrical engineering and automation engineering. The education is built on the continuation of a number of subjects that were already started in the bachelor’s training curriculum.

Specifically for Electrical Engineering as a main subject:

Electrical power and energy transport
During the courses ‘Production of electric power’ and ‘Medium and high voltage grids’ a specialised and applied knowledge of electricity production and transport is discussed.

Electrical technology and installations
All important aspects concerning industrial communication and bus systems, data acquisition, electrical machine safety and CAD electrotechnology are discussed and applied.

Drive technology and automation
Electrical drives are discussed in-depth and applied. This can be completed with the elective courses ‘Process Instrumentation’, ‘Control engineering’ and ‘Servo-systems and industrial robots’.

Specifically for Automation Engineering as a main subject:

Electrical technology and installations
All important aspects concerning industrial communication and bus systems and data acquisition, are discussed and applied. This can be completed with the elective course ‘CAD electrotechnology’.

Drive technology and automation
Electrical drives, control engineering and the technology of industrial automation are discussed in-depth and applied. This can be completed with the elective course ‘Servo-systems and industrial robots’.

Programming techniques and data processing
Students can specialise in programming and the used technologies such as web technology.

For both Electrical engineering and Automation engineering as a main subject:

Projects and research
The concluding piece of the master education consists of a master thesis project in industry or research. Prior to the master dissertation, students may do a voluntary internship.

Business administration and entrepreneurship
The course ‘Business management’ and other elective courses in entrepreneurship intend more social skills and extensive skills in entrepreneurship.
